A Preparation before installation
1. Check materials and tools
Dimming film: confirm the size, voltage (such as PDLC usually requires 24V-110V AC/DC), light transmittance and other parameters.
Supporting equipment: power controller, switch, transformer (if required), conductive tape or electrode leads.
Tools: dust-free cloth, scraper (or soft card), utility knife, tape measure, level, soldering iron (if soldering electrodes are required).
Cleaning products: glass detergent, alcohol, dust removal stickers.
2. Substrate surface treatment
Clean the installation surfaces such as glass or acrylic to ensure that there are no dust, oil, or water stains (can be wiped with alcohol and dried). Measure and mark the installation position to ensure that the dimming film is aligned with the frame (the error must be <1mm).
Installation steps (taking PDLC dimming film as an example)
1. Fix the dimming film: Spray a small amount of soapy water on the surface of the glass, adjust the position after applying the dimming film, and then squeeze out the water stains with a scraper. Then wipe dry the residual moisture on the edge with a dust-free cloth.
2. Electrode connection: The dimming film has an electrode area (usually silver conductive strips) left at the edge of the dimming film, and wire it in the following way:
Welding method: Use wires to weld the electrodes and fix them with insulating tape.
Conductive tape method: paste the conductive tape in the electrode area and connect the power cord to the other end.
Make sure the positive and negative poles are correct (reverse connection may cause the dimming film to not work or damage).
3. Installation of power and control equipment
Connect the transformer or controller (need to match the dimming film voltage). Test switch function: After power on, the dimming film should quickly become transparent, and the power off will be restored to the atomization state.
4. Edge treatment: Use a utility knife to trim the excess film edge (maintain the angle between the blade and the glass ≤30° to avoid scratches).
Things to note
1. Safety protection: Wear gloves during operation to avoid fingerprints contaminating the conductive layer. The high-voltage dimming film needs to be powered off to prevent electric shock.
2. Environmental requirements: The installation temperature is recommended to be 10℃-30℃, and the humidity is less than 70% (low temperature may lead to a decrease in the viscosity of the glue layer). Avoid hard objects scratching the surface of the film (PDLC layer is relatively fragile).
3. Frequently Asked Questions:
Bubble: Poke it with a needle and scrape it flat, or re-removal and paste it.
Local opacity: Check whether the electrode contact is poor.
Power interference: Avoid arrangement with strong wires in parallel, and add a shield if necessary.
Acceptance and maintenance
1. Acceptance standards: The entire area is transparent/atomized evenly, and there are no visible bubbles or wrinkles. The switch response time is in accordance with the product instructions (usually <1 second).
2. Daily maintenance: Use a soft cloth to wipe it with a clean water during cleaning, and use corrosive cleaners. It is recommended to shut down the power for a long time.
